The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria is the largest university of applied sciences in Austria and is an integral part of the tertiary education system.

The organization is defined by the requirements of regional scientific and research needs. Four locations in Upper Austria’s central area offer innovative and interdisciplinary academic degrees. The university is ambitiously striving to secure a leading position in central Europe with its selected fields of competence. The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria is a recognized research partner for industry having already achieved nationwide status and is actively involved in co-operations on an international basis. Campuses are in Hagenberg (Informatics, Communication and Media), Linz (Applied Helath and Social Sceinces), Steyr (Management) and Wels (Engineering and Environmental Sciences).

The Country

Austria is a federal republic and a landlocked country of roughly 8.5 million peoplein Central Europe. It is bordered by the Czech Republic and Germany to the north, Hungary and Slovakia to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. Austria’s terrain is highly mountainous due to the presence of the Alps; only 32% of the country is below 500 metres, and its highest point is 3,798 metres. The majority of the population speak local Bavarian dialects of German as their native language, and German in its standard form is the country’s official language.Other local official languages are Hungarian, Burgenland Croatian, and Slovene. The capital and largest city is Vienna. Austria is one of the richest countries in the world, with a nominal per capita GDP of $46,330 (2012 est.). The country has developed a high standard of living and in 2011 was ranked 19th in the world for its Human Development Index.

The City

Steyr, a more than 1000 year old romantic town, is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and has its very own charm in every season of the year. Steyr is located at the confluence of the two rivers Enns and Steyr, the scenic route or so-called “Romantikstrasse”. In the historic city center you will find numerous shops and boutiques, cosy coffee-houses, diverse restaurants and trendy bars. Furthermore Steyr has a rich industrial tradition with well respected companies like BMW, GFM, MAN, SKF and many more.Also the surrounding area of Steyr has a lot to offer and invites you to enjoy sporting and cultural activities and natural environment. No matter if you visit the Damberg and its view point with your mountain bike, walk or run along the rivers Enns and Steyr, hike up to the Alps in the Hintergebirge or go skiing in one of the nearby ski resorts – the surroundings of Steyr offer fun in the countryside throughout the year.

Student life

Student life in Steyr offers you live music in the city center, open-air-cinema in summer, traditional food, student parties, sporting activities in and around Steyr, cosy bars or Boatmania (the craziest boat race in Austria) – there is always something going on!
