Analyzing market changes and global trends, ZSEM has prepared popular and creative new courses for the International Winter School that are crucial in the current changing world. Students participating in the International Winter School program at ZSEM will have the opportunity to choose among a range of creative and popular topics in business from different fields whilst experiencing the magic of Zagreb. 

Over the course of two weeks students will; visit local companies, receive interactive and innovative lectures from professors and guest lecturers. Students will learn about doing business in Croatia and European Union, take a one-day excursion to the Plitvice Lakes National Park, one day ski trip to Sljeme, Zagreb as well as connecting with students from the entire world all by learning from the professors at the best business school in Croatia!

The courses offered at the International Winter school

  • Communication during Crisis (5 ECTS)

    Zdravka Biočina, PhD

    Winter School Course Communication during crises will focus on all the crucial skills needed to communicate effectively in time of crisis. Through a lot of practical assignments and exercises we will cover topics: Communication strategy,  Negative communication, Crisis Communication,  Presenting in a virtual environment and Persuasive speech performance. The goal of the course is to equip you with knowledge, skills and tools needed in volatile times.

  • Entrepreneurial Leadership (5 ECTS)

    Borna Jalsenjak, PhD

    Leadership cannot exist if there is no trust. Trust is the cornerstone of any business relationship. Trust and collaboration are reciprocal. The more people trust each other, the more they will collaborate, the more cooperation there is, there will be more trust. The coaching approach supports an atmosphere of trust. It is especially pertinent for entrepreneurs where a lot depends on building trust in the early stages of business endeavors. This class looks at how coaching can be used in an organization to facilitate leadership and increase trust in organizations.

  • A.I. in Business (5 ECTS )

    Boris Debić, PhD

    Driven by the semiconductor industry and its Moore’s law characteristics this set of technologies is poised to change the decade ahead of us. It has already fueled some of the most valuable companies of today, but this decade will be a breakthrough (McKinsey, 2018). The AI characterized economy is set to change the world. Compared to the past 30 years of IT, where the global annual world additional GDP growth was 0.6%, AI will double this growth to 1.2% in the decade from 2020-2030. Compare this number to additional GDP growth of a hundred years of the industrial revolution at 0.3%. The effect of AI will create 13T USD of new economic activity. While AI technologies will open new opportunities and job descriptions it will also obsolete others. This course will introduce you to AI, its economic impact, and how to use AI efficiently in today’s business environment.

  • Skills for 21st Century (5 ECTS)

    Julie Felker, PhD & Mirna Koričan Lajtman, PhD

    This self-exploratory and practice-oriented course – Skills for 21st century – will create an environment of self-exploration, sharing, discussions, and learning. A blended approach of online and face-to-face classes with planned study time, collaboration groups, and exploratory exercises will enable students to test themselves on some of the crucial skills in this VUCA world. The course will cover emotional intelligence, resilience, teams, negotiations, influence, and coaching as some of the critical skills of the competitive workforce.

  • Croatian studies (4 ECTS)

    Borna Jalsenjak, PhD

    The course will introduce students to the most relevant details of Croatian culture, history, economy, significant thinkers, and issues about Croatia’s modern development. The overall approach will be interdisciplinary that includes (socio) historical, sociological, anthropological, and philosophical perspectives. Such an approach aims to explain how socio-historical trajectories defined the local environment and influenced the modern Croatian market and Croatian business culture. This course, specially designed for international students, will provide a general idea of how such an interdisciplinary approach could benefit students of economics and business administration and be applicable for future managers working abroad. Issues such as identity and globalization, the meaning of “small nations” in the global market, cultural influence and development, and the effect of “great” ideas will also be addressed.
