From a young age, I was a “baby boss” with high expectations of myself, which manifested both in my sports career and my education. After high school, I was looking for a university that would allow me to continue training actively while also providing quality education.
Although I was interested in multiple fields, I knew that in the future, I wanted to run my own business. I chose to enroll at ZSEM because of its strong reputation for supporting student-athletes and its excellent Economics and Management program. I was drawn to its modern approach and the way it connects theory with practice. Another crucial factor in my decision was the opportunity to study in English, which I consider essential in today’s globalized world.
I strongly believe in the saying: “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” I started gymnastics before I even turned four, before I even began elementary school. For me, sports and education have always gone hand in hand, so balancing obligations has never been an unfamiliar concept.
A busy schedule from an early age has taught me discipline and organization. Of course, there were difficult and challenging periods, but with the right mindset and a good plan, everything can be managed. I used to rely on memory for my obligations, but lately, my planner has become my best friend.
When it comes to time management, especially during intensive training and competition periods, the flexibility that ZSEM offers is invaluable. Professors and staff are always willing to adjust to my needs—whether through consultations, agreements, or online classes and flexible exam dates.
I believe that this flexibility and understanding are essential for maintaining success in both sports and academics.
I wouldn’t single out any particular professor, but many have helped me think about my future career. The curriculum is designed to start with a focus on economics, then shift to finance and marketing, and finally to management. This diversity helps me form a clearer picture of what I’d like to pursue in the future and which areas I’d prefer to avoid.
My typical day starts at around 8 AM with breakfast and heading out. Each day is different, and in coordination with my professors and coach, I adjust my schedule to make the most of my time. A large part of my day is dedicated to training, which lasts between three and four hours, followed by university obligations, lectures, and studying. Once I finish my academic tasks, I prepare for the next day to maintain consistency in both areas.
Besides my responsibilities, I make sure to find moments to relax, often spending time with friends—usually over coffee—as a way to unwind from the fast-paced schedule. I try to keep my weekends as free as possible, reserving them for family and friends, outdoor activities, or short trips. These moments help me recharge for the upcoming week. When it comes to competitions, things change—my sole focus is on sports, and everything else is put on hold until I return to Zagreb.
My advice to young athletes is not to worry too much because that only wastes energy that could be used more productively. Some will find it easier, some harder, but from my experience, I can say that anything is possible. With good organization and support, it’s possible to balance both academics and sports. ZSEM provides an excellent platform and resources for this, but it’s up to each individual to make the most of them.
After graduating, I see myself in the business world, running my own company, most likely in the tourism sector. I am currently taking the exam to become a gymnastics judge because I want to stay connected to the sport. I also plan to enroll in an MBA program that includes studying in both Croatia and abroad, but that will have to wait until my sports career comes to an end.
