Believe in Yourself and Never Give Up

Why I Chose ZSEM?

My name is Fran Čuljak, and I am a professional football player. When I started my studies, I was playing for NK Sesvete, and recently, I became a player for NŠK Posušje. My decision to enroll at ZSEM was driven by three key factors: high-quality education, career opportunities after graduation, and the international perspective the school offers.

As someone who has been playing football since the age of five, it was crucial for me to find a university that would allow me to balance my academic and sports commitments. ZSEM provided exactly that – flexibility and a tailored schedule that helps me achieve the best results in both areas.

Flexibility and Support from Professors

One of the greatest advantages of studying at ZSEM is the ability to communicate directly with professors. From the very beginning, they have been supportive, and their flexibility and understanding have helped me successfully manage challenges. I can reach out to any professor via message, email, or Zoom, which allows me to stay up to date with lectures and assignments. Additionally, I have the option to take exams while I am in Zagreb or online at a time that suits me best.

I would especially like to highlight Professor Pribičević and Professor Novak, whose dedication and passion for economics have inspired me to put in extra effort and expand my knowledge. Their teaching approach left a strong impression on me and motivated me to further dedicate myself to learning.

Advantages and Challenges of Online Studying

Online studying has brought me many benefits, but also certain challenges. The biggest advantage was having all materials available on an online platform and the adaptability of professors. Personally, the biggest challenge was self-discipline. Balancing sports and academic responsibilities required exceptional organization and responsibility. However, with good communication with professors and colleagues, I never encountered a problem that couldn’t be solved.

What Does My Typical Day Look Like?

My typical day starts at 8:30 AM with breakfast – usually oatmeal with banana. After that, I do my morning activation routine, followed by reviewing academic tasks and studying for ZSEM.

Around 12:30 PM, I have lunch at the club’s restaurant, followed by a short rest. Before training, I arrive an hour early for preparation and injury prevention. Training usually lasts about an hour and a half, and after that, I spend time with teammates and friends, depending on the dinner schedule. My evenings end with a series, movie, or another activity, and before bed, I always do a detailed stretching routine.

Of course, on my free days, I have more time to relax and socialize, but most of my days are structured to help me fulfill all my responsibilities.

The Benefits and Challenges of Studying While Being a Professional Athlete

Studying while playing professional sports comes with numerous advantages, but also challenges. The key benefits include developing organizational skills, teamwork, resilience in stressful situations, and building self-confidence.

On the other hand, the biggest challenges are lack of time, missing lectures, feelings of isolation, and maintaining high motivation for both activities. However, I believe that all these challenges are also opportunities for personal growth and development.

A Message to Athletes Considering Studying and My Plans for the Future

To all athletes thinking about studying, I would say the same thing I tell myself – believe in your abilities. Don’t let others’ opinions discourage you, and never give up, because every challenge is an opportunity for progress.

After finishing my studies, I see myself in the business world. Finance is a field that interests me, but if the right circumstances align, I would also love to pursue a career as a sports manager. However, my current focus is on giving my best in both areas and seeing where that takes me.

The future is unpredictable, but that’s exactly what makes it exciting. I look forward to the new challenges and opportunities ahead!
