On August 27, 2025, at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER), a workshop was held dedicated to the exchange of experiences and strategies in the field of international and EU projects, with the aim of strengthening the global recognition of academic institutions in Croatia.
The workshop was opened by the Dean of FER, Prof. Vedran Bilas, Ph.D., who emphasized FER’s leading role in Croatia in the implementation of European research projects, particularly within the Horizon Europe program. He pointed out that FER currently employs more than 650 staff members, 250 of whom are engaged through projects, clearly demonstrating how international cooperation and research have become an integral part of the institution’s development. The Vice Dean for Research and Innovation, Assoc. Prof. Tomislav Capuder, Ph.D., further presented FER’s path towards becoming Croatia’s leading research institution and shared insights into project management and collaboration with partners from around the world.
The Dean of ZSEM, Mato Njavro, Ph.D., reflected on FER’s impressive achievements in the implementation of EU projects and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two institutions. He highlighted that since its founding in 2002, ZSEM’s mission has been to position Croatia on the global academic map through high-quality study programs, international reputation, and partnerships. He added that ZSEM recognizes FER as an excellent partner from whom it can learn, but also as an institution with which it can jointly build new bridges to the global academic community.
On behalf of ZSEM, the workshop was attended by Javier Aguayo, Head of the International Office, and Dubravka Kovačević, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Project Initiatives and Development, who shared their experiences in developing international collaborations and project strategies. They were joined by professors Zoran Barac, Goran Oblaković, and Karmela Aleksić-Maslać. From FER, in addition to Dean Bilas and Vice Dean Capuder, the workshop was attended by Vice Deans Krešimir Pripužić and Tomislav Jagušt, as well as faculty members Marko Bosiljevac, Ana Drandić, and Fausto Miguel Pascoal Ferreira.
The meeting was marked by open and constructive discussion, during which both institutions exchanged valuable experiences in project management and international initiatives. The workshop concluded by highlighting the importance of continuing cooperation, knowledge sharing, and joint efforts, with the aim of making Croatian higher education institutions even more visible and competitive on the international academic scene.
