Mirko Tatalović

He was born in 1950 in Drežnica, Ogulin, Croatia. He graduated from the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Zagreb in 1974. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb in 1975. He attended postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport in Rijeka, where he received his master’s degree in 1989. He defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “Traffic-technological factors for optimizing the productivity of the airline” in 2004 at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences in Zagreb. In 2010 he acquired the scientific-teaching title of assistant professor. To this day, he has been hired as an external lecturer for the subjects “Air Traffic Technology”, “Air Traffic Planning” and “Operational Procedures of Airlines”. School of Economics and Management-ZSEM in Zagreb, where he teaches foreign students the elective course “Airline Management and Economics”.

Work experience

From 1976 to 1981, he worked in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Communications as an expert associate and an air transport advisor. At the beginning of 1981, he was appointed Secretary of the Croatian Air Transport Business Community, where he worked until 1991 when he was employed by Croatia Airlines in various professional and leadership positions in marketing, strategic planning and development. Retired in August 2013. After that, he was elected President of the Council of the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency from 2014 to November 2016.

Knowledge and skills

He has attended several specialist courses and holds three certificates from reputable aviation institutions. IAMTI Aviation Institute Montreal (1989), Boeing Warsaw (1992) and IATA Geneva (1993). From 1983 to 2021, according to the CROSBI profile, he published 72 author’s scientific papers in the field of transport technology (77) and economics (24). Among the scientific papers, the book “Airline Management” with a total of 891 pages, and the approved university textbook “Air Transport Planning” for students of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Zagreb, which contains 362 pages, stands out. According to a Google expert, he achieved a high citation score of 121 citations, the H index is 5, and the i10 index is 2 (May 2021). He actively uses English and knows Italian, German and Slovenian.

Current functions and responsibilities

In 2020, he was elected a member of the Supervisory Board of Croatia Airlines, a member of the economic section of Matica Hrvatska, a member of the magazine “Suvremeni promet” and an external associate of the Faculty of Economics in Rijeka.
