Ural Federal University (UrFU) is one of the top ranked scientific centers in Russia carrying out research in natural, technical, social sciences, humanities and economics.
Since 2008 the University has borne the name of Boris Yeltsin, its graduate of 1955, the first President of Russia. The University includes 17 institutes offering about 350 degree programs at different levels. The total number of students at UrFU exceeds 50,000. The University is engaged in numerous international projects funded by governmental institutions and non-governmental organizations from Russia, European Union, and the US; UrFU is a member of the SCO (Schanghai Organisation of Collaboration) Network University, the CIS (Community of Independent States) Network University and the Network University of the Arctic.

Russia, also officially known as the Russian Federation is a country situated in northern Eurasia. It is a federal semi-presidential republic. Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth’s inhabited land area. Russia is also the world’s ninth most populous nation with 143 million people as of 2012. Extending across the entirety of northern Asia and much of Eastern Europe, Russia spans nine time zones and incorporates a wide range of environments and landforms. The Russian economy ranks as the eighth largest by nominal GDP and fifth largest by purchasing power parity. The country is one of the five recognized nuclear weapons states and possesses the largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction.
Ekaterinburg is the 4th most populated city of Russia. The city lies on the Iset River approximately 1600 kms east of Moscow in the eastern foothills of the Central Urals. It is a city with a well-developed infrastructure for trade, tourism and hotel business, culture and entertainment, and also a center of science and education. The city of Ekaterinburg is one of the major business points in Russia. Ekaterinburg is a 2-2.5 hour flight from Moscow, the maximum temperature in summer is about +30C, the minimum temperature in winter is about – 30C. The Urals is a multicultural and multi-
confessional region. There are Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant Churches, a Synagogue, and Mosques in Ekaterinburg.
The life at UrFU is diverse and enthralling, as students have a lot of opportunities to spend their free time. One can choose to devote his free time to music or singing, participate in a student theatre or join a sport team.

Yekaterinburg has an international airport called Koltsovo which has daily flights to Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport by Ural Airlines, S7 and TransAero and Sheremetyevo airport with Aeroflot. Skyexpress and Vladivostock Air also connect to Moscow Vnukovo. There are also connections to Saint Petersburg with Rossiya and Ural Airlines. Ural Airlines also fly to a wide number of internal Russian cities such as Vladivostok, Novosibirsk and Nizhny Novgorod.
