The Country

Canada is a country in North America consisting of 10 provinces and 3 territories. Located in the northern part of the continent, it extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean. At 9.98 million square kilometers in total, Canada is the world’s second-largest country by total area, and its common border with the United States is the world’s longest land border shared by the same two countries. Ethnic groups living in Canada are 76.7% European, 14.2% Asian, 4.3% Aboriginal, 2.9% Black, 1.2 % Latin American, 0.5% Multiracial and 0.3% other. Currency is Canadian dollar.

Canada has around 31,700 large lakes, more than any other country, containing much of the world’s fresh water. There are also fresh-water glaciers in the Canadian Rockies and the Coast Mountains.

The City

Toronto is known as a safe and friendly city and it is named one of the world’s best cities in which to live by Fortune magazine. A friendly reception in one of North America’ cleanest, safest, and most ethnically diverse cities. Almost any nationality has their own quart, where people like to go to try their national food, for example Chinatown, Little India, Little Italy, etc. Unique attractions such as the Metro Zoo, CN Tower, the Rogers Centre, the Hockey Hall of Fame, various museums, and a picturesque harbourfront where you can enjoy a boat tour of the harbour or a ferry trip to the Toronto Islands. Exciting events such as the Caribbean Carnival and The Toronto International Film Festival.

Student life

Ryerson’s campus is within walking distance of music, movies, theatres, great food, great shopping, and a short cab ride to professional sporting complexes and international attractions. All you want and need is there. They have a lot of recreation facilities and programs. Hockey in Canada is one of the most important things, so when the RAMS (Ryerson men’s hockey team) have a game everyone expects from you to go there and support them. Also there are student learning supports which can help you with study, whether you have problem with math, English language or writing skills. Further there is medical center what is really important to have, especially when you are exchange students.

Exchange students have possibility to live on-campus and off-campus. Also if you want to stay somewhere outside of the campus check out Neill-Wycik. It is student residence positioned in the down town, five minutes walk from main square and university.

Travel opportunities

Toronto has a great position for those who like to travel. Niagara falls is located just hour and a half
drive with a car from Toronto. It is amazing place for spending the whole day. Further there are a lot of agencies, which offers weekend trip to Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec. For exchange student it is perfect combination, because you have travel guide and opportunity to see these three beautiful cities. Also American board is two hours from Toronto, because of that and the fact that everything is cheaper there all Canadians go to shopping in Buffalo.
