The Country

The United Mexican States is a federal republic composed of 32 federal entities: 31 states and 1 federal district. It is bordered on the north by the United States of America; on the south and west by the Pacific Ocean; on the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and on the east by the Gulf of Mexico. With an estimated population of over 113 million it is most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world.

Mexico has one of the world’s most diverse weather systems. The Tropic of Cancer effectively divides the country into temperate and tropical zones. The most notable attractions are the Meso-American ruins, cultural festivals, colonial cities, nature reserves and the beach resorts. The nation’s temperate climate and unique culture – a fusion of the European and the Meso-American – make Mexico an attractive destination.

The City

Santiago de Querétaro is the capital and largest city of the state of Querétaro, located in central Mexico. It is part of the macroregion of Bajío. It is located 213 kilometers (132mi) northwest of Mexico City, 96 kilometers (60 mi) southeast of San Miguel de Allende and 200 kilometers south of San Luis Potosí. Querétaro has repeatedly been recognized as the metro area with the best quality of life and as the safest city in Mexico also the most dynamic in Latin America. Today, the city is one of the fastest-growing in the country, with its economic base in industries such as chemicals, paper products, automotive parts, aeronautics and machinery. This has caused the city and the metropolitan area to attract many migrants from other parts of Mexico.
