Kong and Macau). It is situated in the eastern Asia. China is also one of the world fastest growing major economies. As of 2013 it is the world’s second largest economy by both nominal total GDP and purchasing power parity. As a world and especially regional power, People’s Republic of China has been characterized as a potential superpower by numerous commentators.

The City

Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China situated on
China’s south coast and enclosed by the Peral River Delta and South China Sea. The city is
known for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour. Also, a Time Magazine article in 2008 coined the phrase “Nylonkong”, which referred to New York City, London and Hong Kong, that these three cities form a global network that facilitates the global economy. As Hong Kong ranks the third most important leading international financial centre, after London and New York City, Hong Kong has a major capitalist service economy characterized by low taxation and free trade, and the currency, Hong Kong dollar is the eighth most traded currency in the world. Hong Kong’s population is 93.6% ethnic Chinese and 6.4% from other groups.

Travel Opportunities

Due to great location of Hong Kong, there are many places in vicinity to visit. Either by plane (Phillipines, Thailand) or otherwise. Some suggestions: Guangzhou is the provincial capital a few hours up the Pearl River. It was known as Canton in the teaclipper era. Guangzhou is thousands of years old and has always been the most important city of Southern China. Macau is a former Portuguese colony on the West side of the river mouth. It was the first European enclave in East Asia, and a major trading port from its founding in the 1500s. Shenzhen is on the mainland next to Hong Kong. It was basically a fishing village until the 1970s. Then it was made a Special Economic Zone and developed incredibly rapidly.
