The Country

Lebanon, officially the Lebanese Republic, is a democratic republic country bordering the East Mediterranean Sea. It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south. Lebanon’s location at the crossroads of the Mediterranean Basin and the Arabian hinterland has dictated its rich history and shaped a cultural identity of religious and ethnic diversity. Lebanon has a developing economy having the largest proportion of skilled labor among Arab States. Services are the largest sector followed by industries and agriculture. Tourism is an important industry attracting tourists from all over the world to visit the rich historic sites of the country. The mild and pleasant climate is an added advantage.

The City

Jounieh is a coastal city about 20 km north of Beirut. It is located on the majestic Bay Of
Jounieh on the sea coast of the Mediterranean. It is the city of ancient civilizations and a modern business center for the today visionary entrepreneur. The town suffers from a split-personality: on the south side of town, the old Centre Ville clustered around the Rue Mina, retains its charm. But to the north, Rue Maameltein’s weird, continuous strip of lurid bars and
‘super’ nightclubs and prices as stiff as the drinks, have turned it into an imitation Middle Eastern Vegas.

Student Life

USEK cultivates a strong feeling of belonging among its students, thanks to its welcoming
student life and the multiple services it offers them. Hence, outside the framework of courses,
student life in USEK takes several shapes and offers new occasions to develop new competences and knowledge and build a large network of contacts: a student magazine, social associations and clubs, pastoral work, cultural trips, student parties, etc. The program of sport activities includes: basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, table tennis, oriental dance, yoga, ski, etc.

Accommodation

USEK offers female students a quality space that is comfortable, spacious and contemporary, in a convivial atmosphere. The USEK Residency is located in the heart of the main campus of Kaslik. For registration/information, please contact: bri@usek.edu.lb Young men, or female students who have not managed to rent a room at the USEK hall of residence, due to lack of space, can apply to the University’s Orientation and Admission Office for information on several mixed or same-sex student residences, located in the vicinity of USEK.
