University of Central Missouri was founded in 1871 with just a few dozen students and more than 140 years later it serves nearly 12,000 students from the state, regional and national levels.

The university also has a diverse representation of international students from nearly 50 countries worldwide. UCM serves students by fostering a community of engagement, providing tutoring and mentoring services that ensures positive outcomes, and participating in relevant experiences that translate to employability. This is demonstrated by 90-plus percent employment rate for graduates six months after commencement. UCM provides opportunities for personal, academic and professional growth. Central Missouri offers 150 programs of study leading to a certificate, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, education specialist degree, or cooperative doctorate. These include 10 pre-professional programs, 27 areas of teacher certification, and 37 graduate programs. Central Missouri has 452 full-time faculty members, 69 percent of whom hold a PhD or other terminal degree in their field. The Country

The City

Located in west central Missouri, Warrensburg is a comfortable town of about 18,000 residents who welcome UCM students and their families. Many students describe Warrensburg as having a close community atmosphere with unexpected charm, and lots to keep you busy. Warrensburg has eight parks with two more under construction, nearly 50 restaurants, and an active community calendar that includes spring and holiday arts and crafts shows, an annual Earth Day celebration, the July 4th Freedom Festival, the Johnson County Fair and Johnson County Rodeo, a car show and more.

Student Life

Student life is varied and vibrant. With more than 200 student organizations, 58 intramural and nine club sports, 22 Greek organizations, and even a bowling alley.


UCM’s 11 residence halls are no more than a six-minute walk from classroom buildings and recreational facilities. Every room offers a fiber-optic Internet link, cable TV hookup, and local telephone service; parking comes with the room. Also available are suites, special-interest housing programs, and apartments.

Travel Opportunities

Just outside Warrensburg is the 3,000-acre Knob Noster State Park, a great place for hiking, fishing, horseback riding and off-road cycling. Skyhaven Airport is located 5 km northwest of the central business district of Warrensburg. It is owned by the University of Central Missouri. Warrensburg (Amtrak station) provides Amtrak service to/from Kansas City and St. Louis and other cities via connecting trains.
