ZSEM’s exchange students from Meiji Gakuin University in Tokyo spent last weekend experiencing cuisine and wine from all of Croatia’s regions through a day at the Culinary Institute
Kul IN in Sisak. Following an introduction on wine culture and history, during which several students learned for the first time how to properly open a wine bottle, students had the chance to sample a wide range of dishes which Kul-In master chef’s prepared for them and to which the students themselves had a chance to contribute their hands. Stretching the dough for the traditional Zagorske štrukle–a true challenge when preparing the dough the traditional way–was a highlight of the program!
Kul-In’s team put on a great show and educational program for the group while their recommendation to spend the evening exploring Sisak’s Christmas Market and ice-skating at the city’s new arena were the perfect finishing touch to the Sisak excursion. After a night on the ice, the group headed for the Croatian Adriatic Sea and visited the coastal town of Opatija where they joined the locals on their Sunday stroll on the seafront. For Šečer na kraju (sugar at the end), the students were treated to desert and coffee (Croatian style) at the famous Cafe Wagner (Hotel Milenij).
The MGU students are spending their semester at ZSEM as part of a special, tailor-made exchange which includes company visits, additional English language courses and a cultural excursion. More about the program
