Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) is a private university in Yongkang District, Tainan, Taiwan.
The university was founded in 1969. They have faculties for Engineering, Business, Humanities and Social Sciences and college of Digital Design.The university’s motto is Trust, justice,
sincerity, honesty. “Trust, justice, sincerity, and honesty are the basic principles of our lives.
They are principles revered by ancient Eastern as well as by ancient Western sages. They are now regarded as our school motto. I hope all of us will strive to fulfill them.” —Wen-Ping Hsin, 1969.
Taiwan, officially the Republic of China (ROC), is a state in East Asia. Originally based in mainland China, the Republic of China now governs the island of Taiwan, which makes up over 99% of its territory, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and other minor islands. Neighboring states include the People’s Republic of China to the west, Japan to the east and northeast, and
the Philippines to the south. Taipei is the seat of the central government. New Taipei, encompassing the metropolitan area surrounding Taipei proper, is the most populous city.
STUST is located in a suburb of northeastern Tainan City, which covers an area of 16.29 hectares. To the west of the campus is Tainan City, and to the east, Yung Kang City. It is less than 4 kilometers from our school to the Tainan Railroad Station. The Main North-south Highway and Central Highway intersect near the school, and we are also very close to the major National Freeway
As an STUST student, you will have to consider housing options. Life in Taiwan will be both
challenging and exciting, and once you know where to turn for assistance, you will find that
settling in to a new culture is easier than you thought. Chinese Program The Chinese Language Center at STUST was established for international students and visiting foreigners in Taiwan to help them learn Chinese as a foreign language.
Four or five-person dormitory, each student pays for his/her share of US$380/semester; for a 2- person room, each student pays US$580 (limited number of rooms, advance reservation is
advised).
One of Taiwan’s greatest attractions is the National Palace Museum, which houses more than 650,000 pieces of Chinese bronze, jade, calligraphy, painting and porcelain, and is considered one of the greatest collections of Chinese art and objects in the world. The KMT moved this collection from the Forbidden City in Beijing in 1933 and part of the collection was eventually transported to Taiwan during the Chinese Civil War. The collection, estimated to be one-tenth of China’s cultural treasures, is so extensive that only 1% is on display at any time. The PRC had said that the collection was stolen and has called for its return, but the ROC has long defended its control of the collection as a necessary act to protect the pieces from destruction, especially during the Cultural Revolution. Relations regarding this treasure have warmed recently; Beijing Palace Museum Curator Zheng Xinmiao said that artifacts in both Chinese and Taiwanese museums are “China’s cultural heritage jointly owned by people across the Taiwan Strait.
