National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) is one of the most prestigious universities in Taiwan. It is also recognized internationally.

There are now 7 colleges, 17 departments and 22 independent graduate institutes in the
university.National Tsing Hua University has a long and proud history. First established as the Tsing Hua Academy at Tsing Hua Garden in Beijing in 1911, the Academy was renamed as National Tsing Hua University in 1928 as its curricula expanded to that of a full-fledged university. In 1956, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) was reinstalled on its current campus in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

The Country

Taiwan, officially the Republic of China (ROC), is a state in East Asia. Originally based in mainland China, the Republic of China now governs the island of Taiwan, which makes up over 99% of its territory, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and other minor islands. Neighboring states include the People’s Republic of China to the west, Japan to the east and northeast, and
the Philippines to the south. Taipei is the seat of the central government. New Taipei, encompassing the metropolitan area surrounding Taipei proper, is the most populous city.

The City

Hsinchu, officially known as Hsinchu City is a city in northern Taiwan. Hsinchu is popularly nicknamed “The Windy City” for its windy climate. Hsinchu is administered as a provincial city within Taiwan. The city is bordered by Hsinchu County to the north and east, Miaoli County to the south, and the Taiwan Strait to the west. Hsinchu is composed of three districts: North
District, East District and Xiangshan District.

Student Life

There are more than one hundred student clubs serving diverse interests. Club activities range
from community services, music and sports, cinema and theater, dancing and martial arts,
religion and philosophy as well as various scientific and academic interests. While their interests vary, these clubs are all organized and run by and for students.

Accomodation

There are twenty-one dormitories on campus, with the capability to accommodate 6,000. The
majority of our faculty members also live on campus providing students easy access to their
mentors outside of the classroom.

Travel Opportunities

The Glass Museum of Hsinchu is a museum of glass art in East District, Hsinchu City, Taiwan. The museum has the following objectives:
-Combine cultural and sightseeing resources to help promoting the glass industry of Hsinchu.
-Let the public and business personnel participate in and understand the exploration and application of the glass industry in Hsinchu. The Green World Ecological Farm is an ecological farm in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The park is a combination of a farm, zoo, and botanical garden that occupies about 70 hectares and preserves over 2,000 species of plants and animals. Green World is divided into six theme parks: Discovery Land, Bird Ecological Park, Butterfly Ecological Park, Water Plants Park, Biodiversity Adventure Area, and the Swan Lake Area. There are 48 attractions and shows such as Orchid Land, Alpaca House, Cactus Green House, Lovely Animal Area, and Bamboo Forest. The park attracts 800,000 tourists each year. Visitors are allowed close-up observation of all animals and plants.
