Luka Mihić: Why Rome Was My Best Choice

Luka Mihić, a fourth-year student at ZSEM, is currently spending his exchange semester at the prestigious Sapienza Università di Roma – Facoltà di Economia. His experience in Rome has been shaped by exploring its rich history, Italian culture, and the unique academic approach at one of the oldest universities in Europe. Luka shares his insights about life, learning, and adventures in the Eternal City.

Why Rome?

My decision to choose Rome for my exchange was motivated by the fact that it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I’ve always wanted to spend time in Italy because of its rich culture, amazing food, and beautiful language. The combination of the city’s historical atmosphere and my desire to explore a new culture made Rome the perfect choice for me.

Academic Experience at Sapienza vs. ZSEM

My experience at Sapienza University has been extremely positive. The university is massive, with a large number of students and diverse courses. The professors are professional, knowledgeable, and very approachable, which reminded me of the standards at ZSEM.
The only significant difference I noticed is the method of taking exams. At Sapienza, most of the evaluation is based on final exams, whereas at ZSEM, we take midterms, which makes learning more manageable.

Life in Rome

Life in Rome is quite dynamic, just like in any other major city. It’s full of history, culture, and incredible food – no matter where you decide to eat, you’ll find something delicious. People are mostly warm and friendly, and the city’s atmosphere is always lively because it’s constantly bustling. ESN (Erasmus Student Network) organizes events almost every day, ranging from cocktail nights to trips, making it an excellent opportunity to meet new friends and explore the city.

Advice for Future Exchange Students

Rome is a perfect destination for anyone seeking a blend of rich culture, quality education, and an extraordinary environment. My advice for future students is to take every opportunity to explore the city and embrace the Italian way of life. Also, try to learn at least basic Italian phrases – the locals truly appreciate it!
